A new programme of Trust Awards

A campaign to fund a series of 100% 'free' places (subject to means testing)

To meet the School’s aspiration to widen access to a Benenden education, the Benenden School Trust has introduced a new series of financial awards. These new awards – in addition to the School’s existing Scholarship programme – provide a fully-funded place at Benenden to girls whose families cannot afford a Benenden education. These awards of 100% of fees allow a broader range of talented girls the opportunity of a Benenden education.

• The Benenden School Trust has already offered its first Trust Award
• Now, the Trust would like to offer at least one fully-funded place each year to a suitably talented 11 year old.
• The Trust’s long-term strategy is to provide sufficient endowment to fund fully 4% of all Benenden places
• Where necessary, the Trust will also provide a Trust Award holder with an additional termly allowance to fund uniform and other extras.
• A Staff Mentor – a member of the Common Room at Benenden – helps oversee the well-being of each Trust Award holder and helps ensure that each recipient thrives in the Benenden environment.
• The academic ability and potential of each candidate is carefully assessed, and the successful candidate will be one that the School considers will flourish at Benenden, both academically and personally in their contribution to society.
• Any award will also be subject to means testing.
• Whilst no geographical restriction is planned, it is anticipated that in the first instance likely candidates will currently be attending a local primary school.
• It is intended that, subject to annual review, each award would last for the full seven years of a student’s school career at Benenden.

The Benenden School Trust launched its campaign to create a permanent endowment fund in the autumn of 2006.
